Weekend Recommendations 4/25 | Cinema Every Way

Greetings Cadets!
Welcome to a Spring-y weekend here on our trusty spaceship! We've been hard at work promoting our latest episode with Marya E. Gates.
Thank you all for taking the time to check that out we're really proud of that and you can go grab Cinema Her Way right here!

Free Space featuring Cinema Her Way
Going through all those pics with our latest guests really made me feel great about the show and the community that's forming around it.
Gotten a ton of positive feedback from everybody about the range of different movies and seeing titles represented that they wouldn't have encountered otherwise. All good stuff!

As a sidebar, a big thank you to anyone who's bought merch! We filled so many orders in the last 24 hours and it's been mildly emotional for this ship captain to see things picking up steam. Expect your order is pretty soon we're working hard on that as I'm mailing the guides myself.

Free Space is also having our first in person experience At the Spring Fling Art Market this Sunday. April 27th will be there from 12 to 5 in Echo Park selling our Free Streaming TV Guide! We've also got a new surprise that I'm pretty today at Riso Studio Arts up in Los Angeles that I can't wait to share with you all. We have a whimsical tone here at free space and this new addition to the store absolutely fits the bill you're going to enjoy.
So, with gratitude, let’s get into the recommendations for the week!
Weekend Recommendations!
The Forbidden Kingdom - Streaming on Fandango at Home, The CW and Plex and Kanopy
- This one was a bit of head scratcher from the word go? But, the action is on-point. Jet Li and Jackie Chan doing a riff on Journey to the West? Sounds good so far. A kid from Boston gets sucked into that mythical world by a random DVD. From there, Rob Minkoff tries to find a balance between big Hollywood spectacle and Eastern mythology. Come on in for the names on the tin alone.
The Apartment - Streaming on Pluto TV & Tubi
- Happy Birthday to Shirley McLaine! 91 years young. The Apartment is a great old film that doesn’t get brought up a ton outside of hardcore film social media. The 1960s Oscars were filled with this film. It won Best Picture! Billy Wilder’s Dramadey (pre-dating that term by multiple decades!) is still tight as can be. Jack Lemmon and Fred MacMurray are at odds because of Ms. MacLaine’s Fran. And really, how could you not be?
All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt - Streaming on XUMO, Pluto TV and Plex
- I say it a lot but, it’s really amazing this is available to stream for free. A favorite of our new friend Marya E. Gates, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is a gorgeous film by Raven Jackson. Her directorial debut follows a woman’s life in Mississippi. If you enjoyed getting the south rendered so lovingly on-screen in Sinners, you’re going to adore the work here. Jackson’s touch and care radiate every frame. Just freaking gorgeous.
Free Space Fun Time Corner
For just a few paragraphs, let's rename the show Slow Space. News from over in Sweden mentions ATV show slash live stream called The Great Moose Migration. Over in Kohlberg, the north for those who don't know, About nine million people watched these majestic creatures making a long trip on the Internet last year.
I feel like the great Moose migration absolutely fits the tone of the show. TV and these kind of live streams rack up millions and millions of views on social media all the time. It also probably speaks to people's need for there to be some nice therapeutic viewing amidst… *gestures that the world in general*.
There are dedicated moose fans. They pick their favorites. It gets full blown news coverage. It's going in here. This is the platonic ideal of a free space fun time corner edition. Delightful stuff!
