I hope everyone is doing okay out in that heat on Earth, I hear it’s kind of insufferable. Another week is here and we’ve got some small updates. We’re beginning a project to remaster some of the earlier episodes for YouTube. That’s going to take some time as my editor grinds through the tape for ways to punch up the video for everyone. So, sit tight on that front.
We’re also working to book some new guests for standalone episodes as well for the podcast. Everyone’s been a bit busy in this part of the summer. So, we appreciate your patience! That’s been super helpful! Trust me I haven’t forgotten about all of you.
Friend of the program, Jeff Harris just published a fascinating look back at MeTV Toons. (Trust me, he’s rocketing up the list of potential Free Space guests because of his commentary on the state of broadcast TV and how free streaming plays into whatever the future of TV is going to look like.) It’s really been one year of the network?!?!

Hearts Beat Loud - Streaming on Kanopy, Tubi, Pluto TV, Roku Channel, Xumo
- Shout out to BJ Colangelo and Harmony Colangelo for doing an amazing job introducing this movie as a part of their Double Take feature on Shout TV! Kiersey Clemons and Nick Offerman form an bond making music as a family. The core of this one is so sweet. Truly a movie more people should see. (If you’d like a little bit deeper dive, may I suggest the Wives Colangelo’s show This Ends At Prom?)
Days of Thunder - Streaming on Pluto TV!
- This weekend, a lot of folks are heading to the theater to see some high-octane racing action with F1. Well, you can get a similar thrill at home on your couch with Days of Thunder. Tom Cruise does NASCAR as Cole Trickle. (Lol jeez louise do you think Mello Yello got their money’s worth?) Michael Rooker plays Cruise’s rival here, but it’s heartfelt and things go in a direction you may not expect. Cinematography here is top notch for the early 1990s, and you feel the fingerprints of this in unexpected places.
Bride Wars - Streaming on Samsung TV Plus
- Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are in conflict in this romantic comedy. Two best friends are getting married on the same day. Okay, that’s a problem! But, even more troublesome? They booked the same venue! Could this be the end of a lifelong friendship? Probably not! However, it’s a fun watch and has some wonderful performers having a blast too.
