Free Space returns after a break! We’ve got a bit of a quick hitter today, but it’s very very necessary. The world lost a titan of film this week. Robert Redford’s whole career was in the news after his passing at the age of 89 got reported.

The Great Gatsby (1974) - Free on Pluto TV
Over on Pluto TV, we’ve got The Great Gatsby from 1974. Robert Redford is Jay Gatsby, who is dead-set on winning back the beautiful, spoiled Daisy Buchanan (played by Mia Farrow). Come on, you know what’s up. You had English class! Lush is definitely the word to use here! So much to love in any Gatsby adaptation.
The Candidate (1972) - Streaming on Hoopla
Redford is Bill McKay, an activist turned politician looking to make a difference. But, can he become an effective politician while retaining some of those pesky morals? Jeez louise does this hit differently as an adult! An Academy Award-recognized picture!
Sneakers (1992) - Streaming on YouTube
Later period Redford sees him as a hacker named Martin. A thriller/comedy where this hacker doesn’t know who to trust. A shady NSA deal, a black box with dire consequences for the world. And Mr. Redford is still getting it done as an “old man.” (Is this the last two Mission Impossible movies?)
The Horse Whisperer (1998) - Streaming on Tubi
This emotional little drama on Tubi could be up your alley. This 1998 film stars Robert Redford as the titular Horse Whisperer helping a young Scarlett Johansson and her mother, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, get back into the saddle after a riding accident. The Horse Whisperer is one of those movies where the lighting crew and cinematographers were really having a great time!
Truth (1965) - Streaming on Roku Channel
Finally, we can’t talk about Robert Redford without serving up one political drama! Roku Channel has Truth, a 2015 journalism movie centering on real-life controversy with Dan Rather and “60 Minutes.” Look at the cast here with Cate Blanchett, Topher Grace, and Elizabeth Moss! But, seriously, as much as we love Redford back in the newsroom, his co-stars are doing an amazing job here.
