Free Movie + TV Recommendations 7/18 | Summer Turns Pretty & The Real World
Prime Video makes one of it's biggest hits Free for a few weeks, PBS has great stuff, and WB's big summer continues.

Greetings Cadets!
Summer continues, and we’ve got a brand-new batch of FREE movies and TV for you here on the newsletter. Work on new videos and episodes continues apace. Luckily, the news cycle yielded some excellent picks this week! Some real surprises on the free television front that I wasn’t expecting, quite frankly.
Really loved this week’s Tiny Desk. Yes, I know Clipse blew the Internet up last week. But, I’m an aging millennial that remembers Silent Alarm very vividly!
Free Space is here for more free movies and TV including: a delightful coming of age drama, an inspiring story taken from true events, and more superhero fare as the genre has a massive day in the sun.
Also: If you’re in the Los Angeles area, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is screening for free on August 1! (Free popcorn and a drink to boot?!?!) Details right here.

A reminder that the YouTube Channel exists and we’ve got a short minisode loading for y’all about an encouraging thing I’ve noticed with streaming lately. Subscribe to keep up with the pod from all angles right below! (Audio option for the people as well)
NEW MERCH
We’ve got brand new summer merch on the Free Space store! We’re space trucking through the world of free streaming folks!:
Let’s get into some FREE recommendations for you! Time to get you some FREE Streaming for you to enjoy!
Weekend Recommendations!
The Summer I Turned Pretty Seasons 1&2 - Streaming on YouTube?!?!
- I love a surprise addition here on Free Space, and this would definitely qualify. Prime Video has been running The Summer I Turned Pretty for almost three seasons now. But, ahead of the newest batch of episodes, you can watch all of Seasons 1 & 2 streaming for free on YouTube. Episodes are being released in batches daily and available until July 30!

The Summer I Turned Pretty is an adaptation of Jenny Han’s beloved romantic drama series. Lola Tung’s Isabel finds herself at the center of a love triangle between two brothers. As far as coming-of-age stories go, this beach read on-screen is kind of a delight? And for literally nothing, not even a Prime subscription, it’s an easy addition here. Other streamers take note!
Mr. Bates vs The Post Office - Streaming on PBS!
- PBS has been in the news this week. Public broadcasting is something core to the Free Space mission statement. This particular Masterpiece series got won a Peabody Award last year. Toby Jones stars as one citizen looking out for the little guy. When the UK Post Office begins stealing from local branches, it’s time to take back what belongs to the people.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - Streaming on Tubi
- This weekend is just full of surprises as Jason Momoa’s final (for now) turn as Aquaman is available for FREE on Tubi. With Superman tearing it up at the theater, maybe you’ve got some superhero fever? This strange little entry from director James Wan finds our hearththrob hero battling Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta and trying to save the planet from ecological disaster. Despite the reviews, Momoa and Patrick Wilson have terrific chemistry in this one.
Free Space Real Time Corner
This past week, the United States Senate voted to pass a recissions bill that basically defunded PBS and NPR. Both of those institutions, despite some slight flaws, carry forward the same message as this little newsletter you’re reading. In short, public broadcasting and entertainment belongs to “THE PUBLIC.” Our money need not go to wasteful causes here or abroad and is better served enriching the lives of people around the world.
In their own words: “These cuts will significantly impact all of our stations, but will be especially devastating to smaller stations and those serving large rural areas. Many of our stations which provide access to free unique local programming and emergency alerts will now be forced to make hard decisions in the weeks and months ahead.”
“There is nothing more American than PBS. Despite today’s setback, we are determined to keep fighting to preserve the essential services we provide to the American public.”
Despite our focus on FREE Entertainment, NPR and PBS have played a great role in all of our lives as Americans. Supporting them is something I’m going to endeavor to do even more moving forward.
I feel I speak for my own family when I say, the best expenditure of my tax money as an adult has been this Tiny Desk Concert:
And increased access to documentaries and programming for families through PBS Kids and the network’s longstanding relationship to artists like Ken Burns.
We’re all in this together. May we pull in one direction away from things that would cause us harm. PBS accepts donations from viewers like you. NPR’s tip jar is over here too.
