Greetings Cadets!

It’s been a wild week, I apologize for the late upload this week. I was hanging with New Rockstars this week, where I did some talking about recent movie releases. Namely, Superman and Jurassic World: Rebirth! It was very fun to work with Erik Voss, Jessica Clemmons, and the entire team over there at The Break Room. I know that those movies aren’t free… well at least… you get the idea!

But, Free Space is back to give you some delightful free movies and TV to get you through a busy pop culture weekend. Summer is really starting to find it’s footing at the cinema. But, there’s a ton of great options for you to go check out if you’re looking for Free Streaming options!

As a non-TV option, I’ve been positively tickled by Colette Shade’s Essay collection, “Y2K: How the 2000s Became Everything.” On Bluesky, I ran into an excerpt on Slate.com about the 2000s, and it made me think about the past as we currently experience it through Zoomer Nostalgia. It’s a wild thought to pair with the apparent 1950s nostalgia in Superman and the 60’s gloss of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

I’d love a standalone episode with her focusing on turn of the Millenium cinema as well for the podcast. Everyone’s been a bit busy, but cross your fingers for me!. We appreciate y’all rocking with us. The support has been unyielding! I was always gonna get right back for some free recommendations.

- James Gunn’s Superman is busy soaring at the box office this weekend. But, the new take on the DC Comics hero owes a debt to Grant Morrison & Frank Quitley’s All-Star Superman. This animated feature plays an animated cover of this iconic comics tale. It’s uplifting, wondrous, and most-importantly FREE on YouTube. Go see the Man of Steel in his purest form on your couch.

Veronika - Streaming on Kanopy!

If you know anything about me, it’s that my family loved procedurals in my formative years. Veronika fits the bill, and feels a lot like one of my Gram’s favorites, “Cold Case,” to boot. Alexandra Rapaport is a detective with a prescription drug problem. But, when she starts seeing dead people, the investigator realizes she has to help bring the people responsible for murders to justice. This Swedish entry is enthralling and FREE on Kanopy.

Only You - Streaming on Roku Channel

- These last couple of years have showed me that I really love charming actors just being charming at one another on-screen. Only You absolutely fits the bill. Marisa Tomei plays a romantically obsessed teacher who leaves the United States on a whim to find her soulmate. Enter a 1994 version of Robert Downey Jr. as a possible perfect match. This is the kind of movie that just leaves you smiling for a few hours. Well worth a look in my opinion. (Spider-Man’s Aunt and his mentor had a fling in the 1990s? Who knew? … well, me…)
