Hope the weekend is treating you all well! Coming to you from home this week after a hectic San Diego Comic-Con last weekend. Filming interviews for That Hashtag Show and Phase Hero kind of got me caught up.
Apologies on the delay. We’re just a couple of folks here at Free Space! But, we’re back with some bonus picks to make up for the silence while I ate my weight in seafood last weekend!
A couple of shout outs! Chris K and Tony P purchased the new Free Space tank tops designed by Mike Moody! We worked really hard to bring a retro flair to the new merch. Weekend Recommendations!
Malcolm & Eddie - Streaming on Pluto TV & Tubi
- I’m a sucker for an odd couple story. It’s an enduring classic for a reason! Malcolm Jamal Warner and Eddie Griffin are best friends and roommates in this delightful show. They work together, but they couldn’t be more different! A novel concept and the kind of show we used to have by the truckload.
The Magic School Bus - Streaming on Tubi, Roku Channel
- We’ve done a lot of talking about PBS lately. Public broadcasting is congruent with our mission here on Free Space. Mr. Warner played a massive role in this childhood staple. Now, kids can access it pretty easily on multiple platforms. A lasting legacy all its own!
Jeremiah - Streaming on Roku
- Luke Perry teams with Warner for a post-apocalypse show. A gritty little comic book adaptation! Can these lost boys find the fabled “Valhalla Sector?” It’s a weird program that ran on Showtime for a minute in the early ‘00s. Sci-fi adventure that hits a little close to home now? Still an interesting artifact of that time!
Free Space Fun Time Corner
Can I just talk about Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross for a minute? Like, this kind of delightful lightweight entertainment should be more prevalent on free streaming. Are you in a bad mood? Hard week? There’s something about watching other people visit a new place that loosens the knot in my brain.
Miss Ross is also funny as all get out, which surely adds something to the proceedings. I can’t recommend this enough. It’s the #1 thing on Roku Channel right now. So, clearly they did something right. Consider me a fan. Give it a spin!
